Friday - The Morning

Glorious sleep. I think after lights went out none of us lasted more than 4 minutes until we fell far into dream land. The night raced by and when Cindy called out "Good Morning" just before 9am I was a bit disoriented.

It was not long though before we were greeted by the smell of delicious breakfast.

We heard tell that Cindy's dad was a great chef and he did not disappoint. Scrambled eggs, fried eggs, toast, bacon, all so good.

Cindy's mom also laid out a great spread of juices, milk, coffee, tea and amazing home made jams and jellies (the blueberry jam made from their own blueberry farm was especially geat).

The Wood's also have great coffee mugs. This was Marissa's favorite.

With all the good food down we headed out into the wild blue yonder.

Well, maybe the wild grey yonder. The weather did pick up a little later. A much more favorable color palate of white, blue and green.

New Caledonian Curling Club

The gracious, warm and friendly people at NCCC allowed the girls in to practice for an hour or so this morning (I snuk in a few slides too). Thank you so much Scott for being a very generous host.

To our surprise a local reporter was there to interview the girls and and take photos. The Bond Girls always draw an audience - it's their Holywood glam.

He was full of questions and stories about curling in Nova Scotia. I'm pretty sure the girls are in the paper tomorrow, or the next day.

Practice went well. We all took turns delivering stones for about 4 ends. Scott even held the broom for us so we could all slide and sweep (even the skip got to sweep a few).

That was partly because of the temperature on the ice. Word to the wise: when a Canadian tells you their curling ice is inside an ice shed, the subtext of that is "it's darn cold out on the ice", especially for a bunch of curlers from California.

Katie was not a fan of the cold. Like at all. Everyone was cold really, even me.  This led to a team trip to the most Canadian of places.

And then to the most Anerican of places (yup, Walmart) to get winter weather curling gear.

So many socks. And scarves. And head bands. So. Many.

I know that doesn't look like a lot, but it is.

And that catches us up to now, when we are having lunch and watching game shows on GSN. It's a been a good Friday to this point. We're all looking forward to getting started in the Ship Hector...after a brief food coma nap from eating so many delicious chips (for real, they are really, really good).

  1. I really want to know what is going through Marissa's head about the socks in her hand. Or maybe the ones in the cart.
